How To Thrive In The Midst Of A Crisis

These times of uncertainty can cause a lot of panic and anxiety. Whether medically low or high risk, Economically well off or barely making ends meet, physically prepared or not, we are all experiencing fear and hardships. But If we stay well informed with accurate information and implement some simple steps in caring for ourselves and our communities, we can come through this stronger and wiser.

Anxiety and Fear

Anxiety, Fear, and Panic are very difficult to navigate when times are tough. But there are a few things you can do to ease your mind:

  • Source information reliably and limit the consumption of unnecessary News media. You can check your state and county cases daily to stay informed right here.

  • Practice the CDC’s recommended Health and Safety guidelines.

  • Purchase essential amenities to cover your family for up to a three week period as you are able.

  • Check on the people in your circle of influence, especially the elderly.

Preparedness

Preparedness is highly important, and we have personally taken measures to be ready in times of crisis. However, once in crisis, stockpiling is counterproductive. Stocking up beforehand adds to the communities' pool of resources in times of need. Over purchasing amid a crisis depletes the necessary resources. Ideally, in this situation, we should all have a stock of basic need items to last about three weeks as that is the length of time we would need to self-quarantine during illness. You can carefully frequent stores to purchase the essentials that maintain this stock. This practice limits the number of items missing from shelves that others may need. It reduces panic and keeps morale intact.

Support Local Businesses

Local businesses are working hard to keep their employees working, and their shelves stocked. These essential establishments are struggling themselves and need your support. Here's what you can do:

  • Keep safely giving your business to local companies that have been able to stay open. Most stores have some online inventory.

  • Frequent drive-thru and carry-out restaurants as your budget allows.

  • Buy gift cards to businesses for use later.

  • Tip well.

  • Donate.

Enjoy Your Quarantine

Life is so busy and time moves so fast. This moment where the world pauses around you will not likely happen again. Take advantage and get your house in order.

For many families, this is a unique opportunity to reconnect. Make the best of it. Get to know the people who mean the most to you.

If you are one of the many people who are practicing social distancing alone, this is a great time to practice some introspection and self-care. You do you.

Happy Quarantining
