What To Bring To The Hospital For Delivery

What you pack in your delivery bag hugely depends on the type of birth you would like to have. The recovery list is pretty basic, but a laboring list is very personal. Some people want diffusers and essential oil and yoga mats. Some people want their laptop and to know the WiFi password for their current series! There is no wrong way to go through the laboring process, but there are a lot of different ideas when it comes to how you want to experience it. So here is my basic list that lends itself pretty reasonably in both directions. Pack two bags and pack them mindfully, your partner will be the one getting in and out of this bag.

Labor Bag:

  • A picture ID, your insurance card, and any hospital paperwork you need

  • Your Birth Plan

  • Notepad & pen ( I am a journaler and love to jot down little things I want to remember)

  • Phone

  • Blue tooth speaker

  • Laptop

  • Chargers

  • Makeup bag (baby arrival makeup look only, keep it simple)

  • Comfortable pillow

  • Laboring Outfit: if you are not comfortable with the gown. The staff does not prefer this, but you are allowed. (think maxi skirt and sports bra, they need to be able to check you and monitor the babies heart rate with ease or it will become an issue.)

Recovery Bag:

  • Snacks

  • Comfortable high waisted underwear (3-6)

  • Nursing cami (x2)

  • Pajama pants (x2)

  • Toiletries (makeup, brush, ponytail, deodorant, toothbrush, face wipes, face wash)

  • Pads (they will provide pads, but you may prefer your own)

  • Going home outfit for mom (think most comfy 6-month maternity outfit)

  • Going home outfit for baby

  • Muslin blanket (and a Thicker Blanket if its a winter delivery)

  • Packed diaper bag

  • Car seat
